Back in the late 80’s, the founder of Co-Mac was working for an engineer. When designing and manufacturing, you could spend days hunting for small components to complete the machine. Each part came from a different supplier. To find out your options, you needed to look up for suppliers in a paper-based directory, then call them to request their catalogue to be sent to you.

Once the catalogue arrived you would search for the parts you were after (including the price). If the price is not as expected, or the parts are out of stock, you would have to start looking for a new supplier again. Payment through cheque was sent by mail and the supplier will only deliver the goods once the payment had been received. The whole process for getting parts may take days, weeks or even months, making it extremely difficult for engineers in New Zealand. We decided to make the change and start
